Turkey..Kemal's country to the core

Turkey evoked a great sense of what oriental ism is all about to most Europeans, being at its doorsteps and having sometimes seen as the dangerous oppressor that has to be contained.
For the Muslims it is a testimony of a great empire that spawns two continents, a flagship of how grand and mighty the Islamic civilisation used to be.
So with great expectations i and family managed to visit Turkey for a brief tour package holiday few years back.
One thing for sure, the hustle and bustle of a tour package certainly was not a great way for you to appreciate a country or place.
Turkey though does not disappoint me.
Indeed it is a country that has seen a lot and can offer a lot more in the presence and in the future.
The Anatolian countryside is a must see with the Cappacopadia having such a stunning scenery.

The most obvious thing that strikes me is that it is neither a Western country nor a Muslim country but more of being a country of Kemal Atartuk.
He was revered to the point of worship, his name must not be ridiculed and as you read its history Turkey indeed is kemal's country to the core.
His great influence was such that mostly the elitist and the Army personnel referred themselves as Kemalists ,perceived as great followers of the Ataturk doctrine.
Why did i say Turkey can offer a lot more?
Obvious to me are the harworking nature of its people. No wonder the country has a high GDP despite having no oil reserves.
I loved its Grand Bazaar, the historical site Epphesus, Gallilopoli a place of great melancholy where many Australian soldiers died in the first world war and of course the Bosporos strait the great divide of water between Europe and Asia.
The best of all are the cave dwellings in the Anatolia/Cappacodia region.
Indeed Turkey is a treat for any History buffs.
As i looked back now on that trip , the lasting memory i have is that of Turkey being an oasis of stability in a region that can be a big time bomb .
You must somehow admire their people.Their endeavour to be Turks, their resolve to dictate their own role in this world without being burden by any historical baggage speaks volumes of their great stride towards building up their nation.
Privately though how i wish that Turkey can be the unswerving leader of the Islamic community because i have no doubt that it is indeed their rightful place.
