Bye bye Generation M...hello Generation Y

At one gathering few months back, a distinguished speaker spoke of the challenges faced by the Generation Y. So i started to wonder what is generation Y and who are they referred to?
An enlightened friend then with his perceived wisdom said," Mi, Generation Y means generation Yahoo."
So as i understand this generation lives off googling around,'ipodding" (as what my twins always do) and i presume referred to those now all below 30 years old.
Now what will be our generation be referred as? In jest another "wise" friend confidently said,"we are the generation M, man!!!"
Yes, we are the Generation Mahathir!!!!
We are the young boys that just graduated and started to work when Dr M came to office and we practically grew up knowing, understanding the world realities with Dr M as the overseeing Patriarch of Malaysia.
I believed we may have our faults but we are a unique generation.
We "missed' the IT revolution while in school but savvy enough to master the IT tools.
We "missed" the Bahasa Malaysia revolution but still possess a rudimentary knowledge of the language to get us by at work.
We experienced the dramatic growth of Malaysia possibly at such too fast a pace that our generation does not have the time to ponder on the finer points of life and pursuance of a civil society.
Dr M may have his faults but he taught us all on the importance of a practical mind and not just being fed on rhetoric.(being a good Doctor he is i presume)
So? Have we missed a lot and envy the Generation Y?
Generation M still have a major role in nation building and pursuance of building a greater Malaysia in all aspects.
You know why???
We being below 50 and above 45 can be the bridge of communication and understanding between the older generation and the generation Y.
Make no mistake, Generation Y will have a greater say in what Malaysia will be.
They may be busy with their Ipods, laptops and latest hand phone gadgets and we presume they are just an ungrateful generation that has now enjoyed the fruits of our struggles.
I can assure you we will all be mistaken.Generation Y has a mind of their own, they understand the world possibly better than us because while we the Generation M maybe the children of Mahathir era, Generation Y are indeed the children of the world. The world that demands more accountability, the world that is borderless and the world that sees heroes not in just their own colour and creed but a world that sees heroes that can span a world appeal and possess the universal values and character .
